Re: Friday Funnies (was Stop Cheney)

Folks -

I sometimes marvel at the two-party debates amongst my American colleagues....

Come to the Great White North, where federally you can vote for and/or
criticize:

Progressive Conservatives (now there's an oxymoron if ever there was one) -
somewhat equivalent to Republicans

The Alliance (who can't even stay allied behind their leader) - somewhat
equivalent to your far right or Jerry Falwell in office

Liberals (who have turned out to be fiscal conservatives) - something like
your Democrats

The New Democratic Party (yes, you can vote for a Socialist in Canada) -
sort of like the far left in the U.S. Democratic Party

The Bloc Quebecois (only in Canada, eh, could separatists get elected and
almost form the Official Opposition) - sort of like nothing you have had
since the 1860s

And that's not even counting the "also rans" - the Green Party,
Marxist/Leninists, the Canadian Communist Party and the Rhinoceros Party....

And fear not....the Progressive Conservatives are in control in Ontario and
in the process of de-regulating our hydro-electric sector...it is only a
matter of time before someone figures out how to develop a transmission
line that will send our electricity to California...so watch for Canadian
posts on advice for lighting reading rooms with candles....not all bad,
though...we won't have to worry about electronic records anymore...

Cheers!

Mark
