Re: salary information
Did anyone else happen to notice the "Related Jobs" listed at the
collegegrad.com site? It seems that we are not related to librarians,
records managers, etc., but rather data entry clerks (and supervisor data
entry!), mail clerks and wordprocessing operator. Further an archivist
position "MAY require a bachelor's degree or its equivalent." Nothing
wrong with any of the related job titles listed, but the listing evidences
a woefully circumscribed notion of what we do. If it weren't so sad, I'd
call this a Friday funny.

Also -- an interesting "salary calculator" by job type and geographic
location:

"archivist". Here's what it says about archivists in New York City:
"A typical Archivists working in metro New York -- New York is expected to
earn a median base salary of $40,245. Half of the people in this job are
expected to earn between $39,315 and $48,625 (i.e., between the 25th and
75th percentiles). These numbers are based on national averages adjusted
by geographic salary differentials. (This data is as of June, 2001)."
