TAMPA -- A few years ago, when a cargo van loaded with discarded paper
became involved in a traffic accident in Ybor City, Steve Harris picked up
some of the remnants.
Among the trash scattered as far as a few blocks away: three receipts for a
company's gasoline credit card. The numbers were as good as gold to anyone
who wanted to take advantage of free fill-ups.

A large fire tore through Beaverton's City Hall early Monday morning,
cutting off business for at least the day and causing damage to countless
documents stored inside.
Investigators said the fire seemed to be centered in an attic above the city
planning and development department on the second floor. Firefighters
arrived to find smoke billowing out of the building and steam covering the
second floor windows around one Monday morning.

LANSING -- The Michigan Department of Corrections plans to post photos of
inmates and parolees on its Web site, starting this fall.
By October, Michigan corrections officials hope to have more than 110,000
digital photographs on the site, along with each offender's description,
spokesman Matt Davis said.

Two trusties who escaped from a state-operated work center in Gulfport
Saturday night led deputies on a high-speed chase through two Texas counties
before they were caught late Sunday.
"They were driving at speeds of 85 to 100 mph for about 12 to 15 miles, then
ditched the van in the brush and hid in the brush," said Kim Haba,
dispatcher at the Fayette County Sheriff's Department in La Grange, Texas.
"I'm waiting on confirmation from Gulfport, but I'm almost sure they will be
extradited."

WHITEHALL departments will be able to share information about people's tax
records, benefit entitlements and family history under proposals by Tony
Blair's personal think tank.
The change could lead to a person's benefit application being cross-checked
with his or her medical record, passport details being handed to the Inland
Revenue, or driving licence details compared with information on the
electoral roll - although the specific areas affected have not yet been
agreed.
