Re: Hotel Reservations

"when I was at the National Genealogical Society conference in Portland in
May, I heard (second-hand--I didn't check this out myself) that some people
were able to use other options, e.g., AARP rate, to get rates significantly
lower than the conference rate at the conference hotel."

that is correct. there are several options available and numerous discounts
abound. However remember this, SAA has probably contracted/guaranteed with
the hotel that X amount of rooms will be booked by conference attendees. The
Hotel has set aside a block of rooms. If certain levels are not met then SAA
may have to pay for items that would have been provided gratis. The only way
that the hotel (and SAA) can no for sure how much of the block has been
taken is by folks booking their room at the SAA contracted rate. To see more
search the listserv archives for the discussion last spring (2K) about the
Denver conference.
