I think the core problem is simply the use of duplicate
titles.   For example, if we have some of Walt Whitmans'
letters, we might call it the "Walt Whitman Collection" or
the "Walt Whitman Papers" ... and I bet there are similarly-
named collections in other repositories.

We've already found, here, a microfilm collection from the
Library of Congress called the "Pintado Papers" and also
a microfilm set of materials from Louisiana that are
routinely titled "Pintado Papers."    Researchers routinely
mix these citations leading my grad students in archaeology
to all sorts of grief!!
