Re: survey marker



This is an elevation marker (above sea level) as opposed to a benchmark,
which gives latitude and longitude. They appear on USC&GS topographic maps
and are listed in Geodetic Survey publications. Local surveyors use these as
reference points in their work.
The USC&GS is now part of NOAA (Natl. Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration
(US Dept. of Commerce)), Oodles of stuff on their website www.ngs.noaa.gov
