Ask for the video of Regional and Massachusetts Library of Last Recourse.

Why doesn't BPL Government Documents Department
Curator Gail Fithian collect more complete ranges of
city documents including the Public Library
 Department's own documents of itself?...

Ask for the video or audio of the Regional
and Massachusetts Library of Last Recourse
City of Boston Public Library Departments Budget Hearing
before Boston City Council Ways and Means Committee
 from
charles.yancey@ci.boston.ma.us
http://cityofboston.gov/citycouncil

Watch BPL President Bernie Margolis and BPL Operations
Director Ruth Kowal both testifying to questions asked
by City Councillors with responses not always so
direct, not always with the relevant information at
hand and not always responding with complete
 informative details.

Compare excellent testimony of BPL Chief
Financial Officer Kathleen E. Kirleis always answering
directly and with additional detailed information
presented in a manner that can be trusted for
 completeness and accuracy.

BPL needs to be reformed from the institutionalized
manner of their too limiting responses, lack of
response or denial. BPL is our public library but
denies access to its very own information about
 itself!

Bernie Margolis and Ruth Kowal have flouted BPL's own
stated mission, The Library Bill of Rights, Code of
Ethics and Guidelines for Behavioral Performance of
 Reference and Information Services Professionals
 http://www.ala.org/rusa/stnd_behavior.html

by denying Reference Desk assistance for BPL's own
 information about itself.

What is needed is BPL leadership that acknowledges and
supports citizen interest in how BPL designs and plans
 collections and services.

BPL leadership needs to encourage its departmental
curators to be more open with people about how things
are done at the departmental level.
