Job posting: Bowdoin College, Maine



Bowdoin College seeks a part-time Archives Assistant [.75 FTE] to
assist in the processing, management, preservation, and research use
of the Bowdoin College archives, manuscript collections including
the Senator George J. Mitchell Papers, rare books, and other
departmental holdings. Assist in the planning and implementation
of digital projects and other departmental online products.
Supervise student assistants and volunteers, make presentations
to visiting groups and assist in preparing exhibitions.

Requirements: Bachelor of Arts degree, with liberal arts major
preferred.  Demonstrated effective oral and written communications
skills, with evidence of ability to attend to accuracy, attention to
detail and discretion.  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to
work in a team environment; demonstrated ability to supervise the work
of others, to accommodate deadlines, to solve problems, to organize
projects, and to understand complex hierarchical arrangements.  Working
knowledge of the basic handling and preservation of library materials.
General understanding of computer applications in word processing, data
base management, bibliographical control, and WWW technologies.
Preferred:  HTML; EAD DTD; MARC format; digital imaging and OCR
processes.

Minimum one to two years' experience working in a library or archives
setting required, with duties related to manuscripts, rare books, or
archival records preferred; some supervisory experience and experience
in digital processes preferred.
