Accountability. Reference Desks. Boston Public Library.

1. How can Reference Desk librarians at our Boston
Public Library Departments and at our other cities'
public libraries departments be better trained in
respective state and local FOI freedom of
    information and sunshine principles?..

2. How can Reference Desk librarians be made more
accountable for flouting state and local FOI
principles when denying or delaying access to their
very own legitimately public public library
    departmental documents like departmental curatorial
    reports on collection development?...

3. How about coordinating presentations throughout the
year or from year to year for public and
    staff?...

4. How about public lectures, symposia, other public
programming and producing brochures in cooperation
with National Freedom of Information Coalition,
http://www.nfoic.org

    with Freedom of Information Center,
http://web.missouri.edu/~foiwww/

    and with Barbara Fought

At first glance, it might only seem contradictory that
Reference Desks are there to provide information and
wouldn't hold back information. But at our Boston
Public Library Departments Reference Desks and our
other cities' public libraries departments reference
desks, librarians even hold back from one another.

Turf wars and territorial ensconced old guard careers
engender suspicion to the detriment of the
 intellectual freedom ideals.

When thinking public access, our cities' public
libraries personnel from all organizational hierarchy
levels including public libraries unions collective
bargaining labor relations advocates are entitled as
well as any citizen is to rights of public access to
 legitimately public institutional information.

Change the institutional culture and reengineer
organizational development for our Boston Public
and our other cities' public libraries!
