Position opening - American Dance Festival



I am posting the following position opening on behalf of the American Dance

American Dance Festival

Position: Director of Archives

General Description:
ADF, the continuous institutional home of modern dance, has chronicled the
history of this art form for over sixty-five years. The Director of Archives
manages ADF's extensive, multi-format archival collection (including film
and video, photographic materials, administrative records and printed
materials) as well the manuscript collections in the repository (e.g. Pearl
Primus Papers, Charles L. Reinhart Collection, Harper Dance Festival
Collection).  As a senior staff member, the Director of Archives is
responsible for overall management, processing, cataloging, preservation and
provision of access to these materials and management of grants related to
the archives.

Responsibilities include:
1. Develop and manage work plans and projects for the Archives department,
including large grant projects.
2. Develop and document the organization scheme for ADF's archival
collection.
3. Oversee records management for the organization and collect materials for
permanent retention.
4. Manage three databases for the Archives: Moving Images db, Photographic
Materials db, and Administrative Records db.
5. Provide reference services and access to the ADF archival collections.
6. Conduct research for and assist staff members with use of the collection.
7. Collaborate with Duke University Libraries to make ADF archival materials
accessible to the public (Lilly Library and Special Collections'
Dalton-Brand Research Room).
8. Catalog videos and series for Duke's Online Public Access Catalog.
9. Oversees the storage of archival materials.
10. Act as liaison with other institutions that store ADF material.  (North
Carolina Museum of Art and the North Carolina State Archives).
11. Develop archival procedure and policy for the Archives department.
12. Supervise the Assistant Archivist, interns, fellows, student assistants
and staff assistants in the Archives department.
13. Organize and oversee video documentation.
14. Manage video services including all duplication for faculty, staff,
students, choreographers, and performers.
15. Represent ADF on the Executive Board of the Dance Heritage Coalition.
16. Curate and prepare archival exhibits.
17. Coordinate outreach (e.g. web presence, exhibit tours, announcements or
articles for appropriate newsletters and listservs) for the Archives.
18. Assist in development and fundraising specifically for the Archives.
19. Establish and maintain relations with collection donors (e.g. Judith
Sagan and Nancy Muller).

Qualifications:
Required:
1) Master's degree from an ALA accredited program in library science or
graduate degree in an appropriate field with formal   training in archives;
2) Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple
priorities in a fast paced environment;
3) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally, and in writing
and effective interpersonal skills;
4) Experience with micro-computer applications and cataloging utilities;
5) Familiarity with standard archival procedures, AACR2 cataloging and the
MARC AMC format;
6) Professional archival experience.

Desirable:
1) Knowledge of modern dance;
2) Experience with video duplication equipment;
3) Experience cataloging and managing moving image collections.
