Job opening, New York, NY

Administrative Coordinator, Archives of Women in Theological Scholarship (AWTS) Project. Union Theological Seminary, Burke Library, New York, NY.

The Burke Library is seeking a graduate student with a background in religion and/or theology and/or a specialization in women?s studies to provide part-time administrative assistance to the Archives of Women in Theological Scholarship Project (AWTS). The AWTS is a documentation strategy project funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) and the Lilly Endowment to provide access to the scholarly and personal papers of prominent women who have reshaped the disciplines of theological education and influenced the course of American religious life over the past thirty years. The collections for the project, which is in its third year of operation, will be actively surveyed and accessioned throughout the entire grant period and are estimated finally to comprise up to 300 cubic feet. The collections of the AWTS will provide unprecedented insight into a time in American religious history when women scholars began to have a significant impact on the academy, the church, and society. Together, they form a critical and unique segment of the broader intellectual history of the United States and are of value not only to the study of theology and religion, but to future research in a broad range of humanities and social science disciplines.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Project Director, the Administrative Coordinator (AC) will primarily be responsible for the administrative functions of the AWTS Office, including coordinating the Advisory Board meetings, fund-raising/publicity mailings, notification about the project to the listservs, and the creation of a project newsletter. The AC will work with the Project Director McCurdy in the survey and acquisitions process of the grant and assist in publicity functions. Working with both the Project Director and Archivist, the AC will be responsible for the design of virtual and 3-D exhibits from the AWTS collections.

Requirements: A master?s degree in history or theology is strongly preferred, as is scholarly familiarity with 20th Christian feminism.

Hours and rate of pay: The position is part-time (20 hours per week). The stipend, funded by the NHPRC and the Lilly Endowment, is $10,000.
