Rubber cement--worse and worse

Good morning, list,

I would like to add to the observation on rubber cement.

Recently, I visited a major book chain. Hanging on top of a podium near the front of the store was a placard which read, "Save Your Archives" in bold letters. Hanging on the podium was construction paper, loose leaf paper, sticky tape, rubber cement, photograph books, and black markers. The ingredients were clearly intended for family albums.

I consulted the manager and explained my concerns as an information professional--his store was condoning incorrect preservation management. He responded that corporate dictated these displays and he performed as ordered. He would not change the display. In turn I gave him the number to several local archives and professional organizations who would be happy to confirm my statements, and wished him a pleasant day.

Cheerio,

Mimi Dionne
