This is a position-specific recruitment for an Administrator II. The
list of eligibles will be used to fill this position with the Maryland
State Archives only. Those who are interested in future vacancies within
this classification will need to re-apply at that time.
RECRUITMENT FOR: ADMINISTRATOR II (Research Administrator),
01-2587-001
SALARY: $38,236 - $59,417 (Effective July 1, 2001)
POSITION LOCATION: Annapolis
CLOSING DATE: August 31, 2001
POSITION DUTIES: This position is the program manager and principal
historical researcher for the Commission to Coordinate the Study,
Commemoration, and Impact of Slavery's History and Legacy in Maryland.
This position manages the preservation, cataloging, and presentation of
archival materials and material cultural resources relevant to the
history of slavery in Maryland. This position networks with libraries,
archives, museums, cultural organizations, private groups, parks, and
other centers to gather and share information. The position seeks
support for initiatives relating to the history and legacy of slavery
from grass roots organizations,
foundations, and government agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Each candidate must:
Education: Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university.
Experience: Have six years of experience in administrative or
professional work, Two years of this experience must have involved the
supervision of other employees or exercising responsibility for program
development.
Notes:
1. Additional experience in administrative or professional
work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required
education.
2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited
college or university may be substituted for the required general
experience at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for one year of the
required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or master's degree in African-American history
or studies, or a bachelor's degree or master's degree in history,
political science, economics, library science, archival science with
course work in African-American history or studies. Two years of the
above experience must be in African-American historical, cultural,
social, or biographical research, interpreting and writing history, and
teaching history.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements and the selective
qualifications will be admitted to the examination for this
classification. It is essential that you give complete and accurate
information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on
the employment list categorized as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or
Qualified. The eligibles list will remain in effect until the positions
are filled.
EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of the rating of the applicant's education,
training and experience as related to the duties and responsibilities of
the position. This is an unassembled examination. No written examination
will be given. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and
accurate information on your application. Report all education and/or
experience that is related to the job.

Qualifications: You must possess the minimum qualifications before you
may be selected for a State job. Verification will be completed by the
appointing authority. If you are scheduled to complete an educational or
licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may
participate in the examination process. Permanent State employees may
also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the
date of examination. Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or
volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week. You
must include on your application the time you spent in such activity. You
must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and
Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.
Eligibility: Applicants will be notified when and where to appear for
written, oral or demonstration examinations. Some examinations may
consist of an evaluation of relevant education, training, and experience.
If further information is needed, notice will be sent to the candidate.
Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the
classification for which they apply, will not receive a ranking and their
name will not appear on the eligible list.
Physical Examination: Eligible candidates may be required to pass a job
related physical examination.
