The UTSA Center for the Study of Women and Gender, and the Special
Collections
and Archives Department of the UTSA Library, are pleased to announce the
Aline B.
Carter Research Travel Grant Program. The program will provide grants for
researchers who must travel to use the Archives for Research on Women and
Gender
located at the University of Texas at San Antonio Library. The Archives
specializes in
acquiring, preserving, arranging, describing, and providing access to
primary source
materials that document the lives of women, constructions of gender, and
expressions of sexual identity in South Texas.

The David Carter Family has provided these grants in honor of Mr.
Carter's mother,
Aline B. Carter, a San Antonio poet and former Poet Laureate of Texas
(1947-1949).
Her personal papers are deposited in the Archives.

Grants for up to $500 will be awarded for travel to the Archives and
other expenses
associated with use of the collections. The grants must be used within
one calendar
year of the award and will be made available through the Lee and Zachry
Carter
Memorial Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation.

Applications will be accepted from faculty members, graduate
students, and independent
researchers who live more than 100 miles from San Antonio. Preference
will be given to
applicants who have not previously received the award and whose work will
benefit
most substantially from the use of collections in the Archives. A guide to
the Archives
collections may be found at http://www.lib.utsa.edu/Archives/arwg.html.

To apply, please send the following information to the Center for
the Study of Women
   and Gender:
