sheetmusic
Is there anyone on the list who could advise me about the
possible value of religious sheet music? I'm working in a Unitarian
Church archives. Our Special Collections include a great deal of
music that was used at the Church, from images on glass plate slides to
hymnbooks from the 1800s.
There is also a great big pile of acidic 20th century
sheetmusic for various choir parts. It is this sheet music that is my
current concern.
What would be the possible value of these materials for our
special collections? They are in pretty bad shape and my first instinct is to
recommend tossing them. Moreover, if these materials have any value, there
is probably a better place for them. I'm asking you, the list, for advice or
resources in order to make a well rounded and informed decision.
Incidentally, we do know from the Orders of Service (that exist for a
good part of the 20th century) what music was used from one Sunday to the next.
There is no index to this sheet music and it is about ten cubic feet in
volume. If you want to reply directly to me, please do so at
kobiko@excite.com.
Thanks,
