SAA Business Archives Colloquium

Posted on the behalf of the Business Archives Section.

~~~~~~
All SAA Business Archives Section members and friends:
The SAA Business Archives Colloquium this year will focus on special
issues relating to electronic records.  Two sessions will be held, the
first featuring a broad, thought-provoking perspective of electronic
records from two, top IBM researchers. Dr. Raymond Lorie is a member of
IBM's Almaden (CA) Research Center, and will speak to solutions for
preserving long-term intellectual (as opposed to physical) access to
electronic records.  Dr. John C. Thomas, Manager, Knowledge
Socialization, at IBM Research will speak to the more cultural aspects
of electronic records access.
The second session will feature archivists Fynnette Eaton and Charles
Dollar with new information relating to research and preservation of
Web sites, in the context of the Smithsonian Institution.  Their
comments and work will be of interest to any business archivist facing
this issue, which should be nearly everyone.
This colloquium represents such a good opportunity for knowledge
sharing that the members of the Electronic Records Section have
abandoned their meeting and asked to join us (and were most welcomed).
The colloquium will be held Wednesday, August 29 from 1 pm until 4:30pm
at the Washington Hilton and Towers (same hotel as the SAA conference).
Check the meeting room board for room location.
Immediately after the colloquium, you are cordially invited to attend
the "famous" Business Archives Section social. The social will be held
at the Childe Harold restaurant, upstairs in the private Lord Byron
dining room, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  There will be a cash bar with hors
d'oeuvres provided by the Business Archives section. The Childe Harold
is located at 1610 Twentieth Street NW, about two blocks from the
Hilton (walking down Connecticut Avenue toward Dupont Circle).
If you attend anything at SAA, this is it.
