Visual Indexing Workshop

Archive Impact and DiMeMa Present:

A Visual Indexing Workshop
Archive Impact and DiMeMa invite you to join them for an intensive two-day
workshop introducing the concepts and methodology of still and moving image
indexing and a hands on tutorial of implementing on-line collections using
CONTENTdm, an asset management software solution.

The New York Public Library
Science, Industry & Business Library
188 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10016

September 27 & 28
10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A New Indexing Skill and a New Asset Management Tool

Archive Impact was started in 1994 by a group of library, archive, and
information science professionals driven to better understand indexing,
accessibility, and retrieval for imagery. CONTENTdm has evolved from over
five years of university research and collaboration to provide a complete
system for the indexing, capture, organization, and searching of digital
collections. The SIBL workshop promises theory, practice, and discussion.
Participants will walk away with an understanding of how to analyze still
and motion imagery. Students are encouraged to participate in the intensive
workgroups and experience for themselves the different ways that people see
the same imagery. Workgroup participants will learn to reach consensus and
consistency through thought provoking group discussion. Attendees will
build actual digital collections to gain practical knowledge of the process
and tools.
