Re: Question about Reference questions

I've never satisfactorily solved the problem of reference
paperwork. First, one of the first questions that security
raises in a theft is who has used this collection and when.
That can mean keeping such statistics indefinitely. It could
get stickier for materials on loan to you. Second, the
privacy laws differ from state to state, but the basic library
law is the confidentiality of the user and what they used.
We have a blank on our user form where the person may
check that they grant permission to share their name, etc.
with another user at our discretion.

And frankly, I wonder if nine times out of ten, no one ever
asks for the same thing or in the same way ever again.
