Re: Question about Reference questions

At one time we kept a card file of "unusual" questions or ones that were
unusually hard to find the answer to. Of course this was a subjective
exercise, but it worked reasonably well. When we had a few free minutes
at the ref. desk, we'd look through the file and see what was new. The
file helped once in a while in answering a new question, but it also
helped in showing others how another librarian tackled a difficult
question. The file wasn't very big - the cards fit into a standard 3x5
box that held about 100 cards. As our staffing decreased because of
budget cuts, this file was discontinued. Besides, since "everything is on
the web," such a file is no longer needed, right?
