Re: Acid-free materials sold in stores

I have the same problem with a negative. I have tried to just pick the
adhesive with my fingers, but it's like dried molasses. I didn't want to use
any kind of tool or eraser on a negative. Anyone have any ideas?

Joanne,

You might try using a crepe eraser (The University Products catalog calls it
an "Adhesive Pick-up Square" - I've also seen it called a rubber cement
pick-up.) They can work nicely with some adhesives. Try rubbing gently
from the edge of the adhesive - when it works, it will roll the adhesive
into a little ball which can then be picked off with tweezers. They can
often be found at art supply stores, too.

Speaking of photographs.....

I am in the middle of processing photographs. One group is stored in
separate "folders" of acid free paper. The backs of all these photos have a
tacky residue on them, possibly they were removed from one of those
"magnetic" albums. I have tried removing the residue with a document
cleaning pad, with "Skum-X" and using a soft eraser, all with negligible
results.

Two questions:

Is there a way to remove this tacky residue?
