The quality of discussion

Folks,

Just before the SAA Annual Meeting, there was a thread about the quality of
discussion on this list declining as a result of the change in the Reply-To
setting. I have brought the issue to the Council committee, and I believe
we are close to a decision.

On a related note, I read over the comments about the terrorist attacks
yesterday. In particular, I appreciate the call to think about what we can
do as archivists (as well as citizens). How do we document this event?
What kinds of information will be needed to help the future understand and
appreciate this event.

The example of preserving newspapers was excellent. I'm completely
comfortable with microfilming and disposing newspapers. But here is an
exception where we want to preserve the physical copies for exhibitions.

And the discussion of dispersing the concentrations of people gives us some
clues as to what long-term, often subtle impacts we should be looking to
document.

Finally, I have heard from Danna Bell-Russel and Fynette Eaton, both in
DC. Both are okay.
