Re: The quality of discussion



As I read the list yesterday, I too, at first, was concerned about the
amount of traffic and crisis notes, thinking they did not belong on the
list.   BUT ... my assistant and I are located in the basement of the
Library ... no windows, etc.      And like others on the list, sometimes
the only way to learn of "outside" events is through the listserv.

I joke about using the weather.com site for local radar just to see if
it is raining outside...but it is really no joke!   We do have a university
PBS radio station that is the "university's official" news source but
we have had little success in getting the FM signal through the thick
concrete ceilings, etc. that surround our area.

So while I can appreciate the alarm that some folks felt about using
the list for 'breaking news,'  I find myself agreeing with those that saw
the list as very helpful since they were in situations of being able to
find out very little.
