urban legend (re: price of gas) widespread

When I was on my way home last night after class (about 8:30) the lines at the gas stations were frightening. Some people waited as long as 3-plus hours to get gas (rumor was the price was going up to $5/gallon). Folks were pretty calm, but the police were out in large numbers.

Also--
the 4 international bridges here in Laredo were shut down only for about 30 to 45 minutes--due to a bomb threat. After the powers-that-be determined there were no bombs, the bridges reopened. The border here was not "closed" in the way national news media were communicating yesterday.
