JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions:
Arranges and describes records and manuscripts and prepares finding aids.
Conducts initial reviews of assigned materials.
Researches the provenance of records and manuscripts.
Advises regarding the archival value of records and manuscripts.
Provides reference and research services to archives users in person, by
phone, or mail.
Assists with the relocation of collections.
Transfers records from state agencies and manuscripts from private donors.
Attends work regularly and in accordance with agency leave and attendance
policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including
safety and standards of conduct.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree from an accredited school with a major in History,
Government, Library Science or related discipline, and coursework in
archival administration.
Two years experience in the arrangement and description of archives and
manuscripts.
Ability to collect, organize, research, and interpret information from
various sources and to compose descriptive narratives that are clear,
concise, and grammatically correct.
Ability to work semi-independently and to exercise professional judgment.
Work/school experience using word processing applications for PC or
Macintosh.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of historical research methodology.
Considerable knowledge of Texas history and government.
Experience with database management applications


OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Submission of college transcripts.
Submission of a finding aid.  Finding aids must be the product of the sole
work of the applicant to be given full weight.
Criminal history check.
Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds.


SUPERVISION
Reports to Assistant Director, State Archives, Archives and Information
Services Division.
Has no supervisory responsibilities.
