Re: Researchers in hiding?

Although our patronage had been down due to internet usage - most of our
patrons on any given day are genealogists, God love them - it really took a
nose dive in the weeks after Sept. 11. I noticed a considerable drop in our
out of state patrons especially. It was as if people did not want to get
very far away from home during the crisis. Now we seem to be nearly back to
our usual levels of patronage. Our level of requests received by mail and
telephone have also dropped. Our next big hurdle will be fighting off cuts
in our next budget - "their patronage is down, let's pare down their
upcoming budge accordingly".

Since September 11 the number of research requests (in person, phone, and
email) that I've received at my shop has fallen off sharply. This
fluctuation may be coincidental but I wonder if any of you can report a
similiar drop. I understand that general attendance at museums has suffered
and is being attributed to the terrorist attacks.
