Port Authority Archives Update
Dear colleagues:
I just received confirmation from Patrick Caggiano, Deputy Director of
the Port Authority of NY & NJ that the entire contents of the library,
stored in a sub-basement of the World Trade Center, were destroyed
September 11.
Here at Rutgers we have some Port Authority-related material in the
collection of Professor Angus Gillespie, in the form his research
materials for his book about the World Trade Center. He copied a large
amount of material from the Port Authority archives. The collection
also contains publicity materials amount the building of the World Trade
Center, etc. Because so much was destroyed, the research value of this
collection has now of course been heightened. It has been reported to
Kathleen Roe as part of NY state's efforts to document the disaster and
salvage materials.
