Re: Digitization plans (how do you handle copyright questions)

With another project I was involved with (http://winningthevote.org), we
dealt with materials that we believed to be clearly in the public domain
because of age (75+ years).  I know we had issues with at least one item
and could not discern who the owner was to check dates, etc.  With the
group I am now working with, I will likely recommend that they deal
first with items that are clearly in the public domain because of age
and then consider digitizing items where the ownership is clear and
permission can be sought (and received).
