Handling hazardous materials

I work as an Archives Assistant at a state university library. Our Archives
has been asked to to write up a plan for handling material received from
unknown donors. i.e. How do we handle incoming donations as far as checking
the material when it arrives, what we do if we find something hazardous,
etc.

I would appreciate any information that anyone has this subject.

Thanks in advance!
