Re: recorders for oral histories

For the past few years, we've been using the Marantz PMD 420 with Shure BG
4.1 microphones and, when needed, Audio-Technica Pro 7A lapel microphones.
This is a set up recommended by the UCLA oral history program and one we
have been quite pleased with.

As a caution, it is important to use with this set up a mike transformer
that has a lead wire from the transformer to the cassette recorder. Over
time, the weight of transformers without the lead wire tend to break the
solder joints of the mike inputs.
