Re: Archiving information within databases
I tend to agree with Thomas Wood.
Databases can be fluid, but they can also be stagnant. Archivists
attempt to "capture" information...and it may be considered fixed,
but if I attempt to capture the database today, and again tomorrow,
to reflect changes, sure the information has been fluid, but the
database is still a record.
We get microfilm of alumni records. Each year a new reel or two
is added to that holding. You can consider that "record series" as
fluid, also -- changing from year to year -- but it is still a record.
