Re: Listserv Survey



 I like the "pearls among swine" analogy. If you wade through much of the
junk there IS the occasional great thread. A good recent example was the
discussion of "Archiving information within databases." The certification
discussions have also been very good. I guess I would say that I have two
complaints about the Listerv. First, too many queries from people who
should have done their homework first. Either the question could have been
answered by a quick search of basic reference sources ( either paper or
electronic ) or a search of the Listserv archives, as many subjects are
covered repeatedly. Secondly, I have noted a lack of participation by the
more respected names in the field (you know who you are and you probably
are NOT reading this! ). My guess is that these people have either been so
turned off by the "dribble" that they unsubscribed, or they are just too
busy to participate.

All in all I think the List serves a very useful purpose and the negatives
are outweighed by the positives. I prefer to see the glass as half full.
