__________
=E2=80=A6The name for this publication caused us some thought. We wanted a=20=
title=20
that would reflect the color of life out here [Izmir, Turkey], but would not=
=20
sound over-ambitious. After consideration of various names that will come t=
o=20
your mind, too, we have chosen OLIVE LEAVES. After our decision was made, w=
e=20
read that Turkey is sending a number of olive trees to be planted on Mahatma=
=20
Gandhi's grave. A Moslem land sends olive leaves to a Hindu land, and so we=
=20
in a Moslem land send these OLIVE LEAVES as a distillation of our Christian=20
heritage and experience.  =E2=80=A6
Lynda Blake, Izmir.

Olive Leaves is a collection of short stories, sermons, travel notes, poetry=
=20
and local history, mostly of a religious nature gathered by the American=20
community in the Cigli/Izmir area of Turkey in the early 1960s. I suspect=20
these were distributed from the base chapel at Cigli air base to newcomers t=
o=20
the base and its corresponding civilian community in Izmir. It clearly=20
predates my family's arrival in Turkey in 1964.
