I can sympathise with Katy on this point.  Although I've worked on a private
family project this past year I'd hoped to do some part-time archival work to
pay some bills on the side.  To be sure, the Lynchburg area is not exactly a
major metropolitan area, but two archival positions were posted here over
this past year.  I applied for both and was turned down very pointedly, being
told that they would not consider a professional for non-professional work.
One required a B.A., the other required a high school diploma.

Go figure.
