....and a further clarification about the "chicken in
every pot" quote.
Hoover himself, contrary to popular belief, never uttered this
statement, nor intended to use it as a campaign slogan. Something similar,
however, was used in an ad sponsored by the Republican National Committee during
the 1928 campaign. The ad, with the heading "A Chicken for Every
Pot," contained within its text the following quote:
"Republican prosperity has reduced hours and increased
earning capacity, silenced discontent, put the proverbial 'chicken in every
pot.' And a car in every backyard, to boot."
Throughout his post-Presidential years, Hoover tried (in vain)
to disassociate himself from this quote.....and we still get reference questions
about it on a fairly regular basis. It wouldn't be a bad marketing slogan
for KFC though, would it? (a chicken in every bucket for the car in every
drive-through??)

>>> Chuck Piotrowski <Chuck.Piot@ADM.UCSC.EDU> 12/19/01 12:25PM >>> Ah, this was funny! However, what is NOT funny is the lack of knowledge about American History! "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage" was Herbert Hoover's 1928 Presidential campaign slogan. Technically, you're right, for it does pre-date FDR's Presidency. The Los Angeles sewage system handles enough urine each month to fill Lake Erie. There are few tornado evacuation routes because of the capricious nature of tornadoes. The Stassi eliminated, on average 7,000 men women and children each year. Vigorous vomit travels at speeds above 70 miles an hour in systemically healthy individuals. Elephants cannot be evacuated hurriedly, however, they can evacuate quickly. Urine from the Female Cape Buffalo is the most acidic in nature. Each human foot sweats 8 ounces per day. Human vomit will remove paint easily, however, no commercially available paint remover features a vomit based solution. TV networks eliminate more shows per year then they renew. The urethra pressure of the Sperm Whale is great enough to inflate a truck tire. Women eliminate more urine per pound of body weight than men, but men more solid waste per pound of body weight than women. In the first skyscrapers in New York City, in order to control sewage pressure, waste from the upper floors, dropped through the open air a distance of 4-6 floors. Theoretically, it made sense, but practically, gusts of wind rendered it disastrous. As a prank, in 1987, students flushed every toilet on the upper 10 floors of a high rise dorm in Austin Texas at the same time. The resultant flood forced the evacuation of the entire building. Josef Stalin believed in the elimination of the Kulaks. Sun Yat Sen prefigured Roosevelt and his call for "a chicken in every pot" when he called for "a pot in every home." Waste is dumped into the Mississippi for its entire length. This becomes drinking water in New Orleans. Kentucky creates more waste per capita than any other state. Hurricane evacuation routes line up thousands of terrified sea side residents, for elimination, like animated bowling pins. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
