Re: Who Flies the UN Flag?

Happy Holidays!

In defense of the anti-Un folks, there is a legitimate concern amongst many
that the United States is slowly surrendering its sovereignty piece by piece
under the flowery guise of World Peace. Unfortunately, John Lennon's
solution as expressed in "Imagine" is oversimplified. I tend to agree with
the view that unbalanced power concentrated in a world governmental body can
only lead to tyranny. Let's hear it for the US Constitution, Bill of Rights,
and our brilliant founding fathers' federal system of checks and balances!

I do not wish to get pelted with rocks and garbage, but let me add that many
people who champion free speech can be intolerant of opposing views (and
downright nasty!).

Cheers,
John Potwora

FYI: Survivors of the Srebrenica massacre tried to bring suit against the UN
and Nobel Peace Prize winner Kofi Annan for their complicity in allowing
Serbs to round up and massacre Bosnian Muslims under the very noses of Dutch
peacekeepers. Not surprisingly, the suit, which was filed with the UN war
crimes court in The Hague, was dismissed. In addition, Annan was in charge
of UN peacekeeping operations when Hutu extremists massacred around 800,000
Tutsis in Rwanda. Annan apparently refused to heed the warnings of Canadian
General Romeo Dallaire, commander of the UN forces in Rwanda.

seems to me to have had a problem with the UN and the United States role in
it for a while. A few years ago, when I last visited southern Utah, I saw
signs by the highways which stated "End the conspiracy, Pull the United
States out of the UN." I don't know how much has changed since then, it
doesn't sound like a lot. Then again it was just a few short years ago, that
the United States was refusing to pay all of its dues to the United Nations.
I also was left with the impression that it wasn't just the UN people were
worried about in Utah. There was also a large number of people who felt
that any sort of direction from Washington, DC. was dangerous and threatened
their rights (particular when it came from the Bureau of Land Management).
