historic wishful thinking
Second sending. Please excuse the typo in the first. Its Friday after all.
Colleagues:
Since this is the first Friday in the new year, I though to cheer
all of you up with an extract from the 1703 will of Joseph Arden of Berkeley
County, SC:
His burial instructions directed that he be "decently interred in a plain
cedar coffin, and it is my desire that my pall be held up by six maidens who
shall have the customary perquisites given them and also that a general
invitation be sent thro the parish, and that [free] gloves be given to such
... as shall attend my funeral".
