Internship Position Available at MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art Archives -- Dedalus Fellow

The Museum Archives of The Museum of Modern Art announces a two-year Dedalus
Fellow position, generously funded by the Dedalus Foundation. This
internship will provide the candidate a unique opportunity to learn about
modern and contemporary art, important training in the fields of archives,
research and Museum administration, and an advanced understanding of the
artist Robert Motherwell.

The Dedalus Fellow's duties will fall into three broad categories:
* First, the intern will be assigned to a project relating to the work
and career of Robert Motherwell. The fellow will conduct work on three
archival collections related to the artist. Such work will include
surveying the condition of the materials; performing preservation measures
as necessary; re-housing the collections; creating of finding aids or adding
detailed description of contents, biographical information on Motherwell,
and notes on provenance, access, restrictions and related collections to
existing inventories; and labeling the boxes and file folders.
* Second, the intern will become an integral part of the staff and
operations of the Museum Archives providing assistance for daily operations.
The Museum Archives includes over 1,500 linear feet of important primary
source material and responds to over 1,600 research requests annually. The
Fellow would assist the department with general reference and research
functions, basic preservation tasks, and the daily activities of this
extremely active department.
* Third, the Dedalus Fellow will be a member of the Museum's
Twelve-Month Internship Program. Twelve-month interns are college graduates
who are interested in pursuing a museum career and whose academic and/or
professional experience combines art history with one or more of the
following areas: arts administration, museum studies, arts management,
education, development, studio art, or related studies. The focused
departmental training is integrated with an educational program that orients
interns to the workings of the Museum as a whole, and helps them to think
about the role of museums in a broader cultural context through an active
lecture series and site visits.

The stipend for the position is $20,000 in the first year, $22,000 in the
second. In addition, the intern will receive $1,000 annually for travel to
an approved professional conference. Benefits include health insurance and
two weeks paid vacation per year.

Interested applicants should complete a standard application to the
