"Jeans" schools

Colleagues:
I just had a patron call for information about his mother, who was a Black
school teacher in rural Arkansas during the 1930s. He says she was the
supervisor of the "Jeans" schools or the "Jeans" program in Black schools.
However, he did not know what the term "Jeans" (sic) meant. I did not
either. Anyone out there who can help my me and my patron with this term?
Thanks.
