Re: Touching Up Digital Images



Seems pretty straightforward to me.  Assuming you're simply copying the
original, which will then go back into the stacks as it was, you can do
pretty much anything you want to it.

BUT - make sure you identify the image in all copies you make (for the web,
on a CD, whatever) as being doctored and explain how & why you did it.

People who need to see the original will need to come look at it regardless;
since the copies you make for the web will only be used by casual users and
those who need the information but not the precise original in the box,
you're better off giving them a clearer, more readable version.  The danger
for the image is that once things are on the web you lose a certain amount
of control; if you can, mark the copy with a note saying it's a modified
version of the original.  Try not to cover up information or you defeat the
purpose of the upgrade (duh), but make it clear that it's not what it looks
like in real life.
