English-language China documents

Colleen,
I suggest you add the University of
Wisconsin and the University of Chicago to your
list and also the missionary boards of major
churches. (I grew up in India as the child of
Protestant missionaries and got my MA in Indian
and Far Eastern History at the U. of Chicago.)
The Presbyterian Church had a strong presence
in China. The United Church of Christ also sent
missionaries there. The UCC board is now the
United Church Board of World Ministries, but
used to be (from the 1830s) the American Board
of Commissioners for Foreign Missions.
Harvard's Houghton Library holds some of
the manuscripts of missionaries to India. It may
have some for China missions as well. I expect
the Catholic Church has records of their
missionaries to China, but don't know where
they may be held.
        Hope this helps. Good luck!
