Project Archivist, Gore Vidal Papers
Harvard College Library

Reporting directly to the Curator of Manuscripts, and working closely with
the Senior Manuscript Cataloger, the Project Archivist will survey,
appraise, process, and catalog the papers of American novelist Gore Vidal.
These papers (ca. 240 cubic feet) include manuscripts, correspondence,
financial records, photographs, audio recordings, films and videotapes,
and other materials. This position supervises 1 to 2 half-time student
assistants, as required.  NOTE: This is a four-year temporary position.

Qualifications:  Master of Library Science degree or equivalent formal
archival training required. At least five years post-graduate experience
in archival management and cataloging with demonstrated experience
processing large collections. Familiarity with EAD, MARC format, AACR2R,
use of authority files, microcomputer applications, and broad knowledge of
twentieth-century American literary and cultural history strongly
preferred. Ability to work independently, meet production schedules, and
maintain a high level of consistency and accuracy required. Must be able
to lift 30-lb cartons.

Compensation:  Harvard University offers a competitive program of
benefits. Appointment salary is dependent on qualifications and
experience.
