EAD Seminar (North Carolina)

If you're stationed in or around central NC and have yet to learn the
basics of EAD, you may be interested in the workshop below. Please note
that this is sponsored by the UNC-Chapel Hill Student Chapter of the
SAA and not the national SAA!

*ANNOUNCEMENT*

WHAT: A day-long EAD workshop with Kathy Wisser and Joshua McKim. The
EAD Document Type Definition (DTD) is a standard for encoding archival
finding aids using the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML).

FOR WHOM: Archivists and librarians and students of archival and
library science who are interested in learning the basics of Encoded
Archival Description (EAD). No previous knowledge is expected;
experience with HTML (or another "tagging" language") will be helpful,
but is not required.

WHEN: March 23, 2002, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

WHERE: UNC-Chapel Hill, Manning Hall, room 117 (the Computer Classroom
located behind the SILS Library).

COST: $15.00; this INCLUDES bagels and coffee in the morning and pizza
for lunch.

TO REGISTER: Email SCOSAA@ils.unc.edu or dot@email.unc.edu with your
name and contact information AND send a check, made payable to Emily
Glenn with "SCOSAA: EAD Workshop" in the memo line, to: SCOSAA, c/o

of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, CB #3360, 100 Manning Hall, Chapel
Hill, NC 27599-3360. Payment is due by March 18 - space is limited, so
register early!!

THE WORKSHOP LEADERS: Kathy led the Encoded Archival Description (EAD)
Summer Project at NCSU and works in the NCSU Special Collections. Josh
is Digital Encoding Archivist at the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special
Collections Library, Duke University. He is involved with the NCEAD
Best Practice Guidelines for EAD Encoding, a joint project with
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State
University, and the North Carolina State Archives. They both hold
M.S.L.S degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill.
