SPECIAL FORMATS/ELECTRONIC SERVICES CATALOGER

The newly created position of Electronic Resources and Special Formats
Cataloger will provide leadership and expertise for the bibliographic
control of all electronic and special format/archival resources. Reports to
the Head of Cataloging. Responsibilities include the following: 1) serves as
resource person and coordinator for special formats and electronic
resources; 2) creates original cataloging records in OCLC following national
standards and local practices for electronic and special format resources,
particularly the cataloging of archival materials; 3) keeps current with
national trends in non-print materials including electronic resources
cataloging; 4) monitors developing trends in metadata standards and make
recommendations concerning their local application and lead their
implementation and assists in maintenance of electronic resources and
databases; 5) provides leadership for formulation of policies related to
access to electronic resources and archival materials; and 6) performs
training for electronic resources and special formats/archival cataloging
within the Cataloging and Archives departments.

This individual will work closely with all library departments to integrate
the use of electronic resources into the library's collections and services.


Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS degree; recent professional cataloging
experience or coursework in cataloging; knowledge of issues and trends in
electronic resources and special formats cataloging; demonstrated knowledge
of current cataloging and archival rules and standards including AACR2rev,
LCSH, MARC formats, LC classification system, AACR2rev AMC, SAA guidelines,
and APPM. Should possess an aptitude for learning multiple formats and the
ability to work quickly and accurately in a production-oriented environment.
Demonstrable experience with an integrated library system and with an online
bibliographic utility such as OCLC. Must have excellent communication and
interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a
team in a diverse environment.

Preferred: Recent experience in cataloging archival materials and electronic
resources. Experience using Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

Salary: Minimum of $32,500 for 12-month tenure-track appointment.

Benefits of position include: 22 days of paid vacation plus holidays;
