VISITING SCHOLAR OPPORTUNITY

VISITING SCHOLAR OPPORTUNITY
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO

The Gannon Center for Women and Leadership invites applications for its
newly formalized Visiting Scholar Program. Located on the Lake Shore
Campus of Loyola University Chicago, the Gannon Center for Women and
Leadership is composed of the Women and Leadership Archives, Loyola's
Women's Studies Program, the Institute for Women and Leadership, and a
heritage space honoring the former Mundelein College, a small, liberal
arts women's college that affiliated with Loyola in 1991. Leadership is
defined not only as positional but also transformational, as "changing the
local environment for the common good." During the past four academic
years the Center has provided space for visiting scholars from the United
States and other countries who were doing research on issues related to
women's leadership.

The Visiting Scholar is awarded an office within the lakeside Center, a
computer and Internet access, library privileges, and the friendly support
of a community of feminists. The Gannon Center is currently located on
the second floor of the Sullivan Center/Science Library. Its location on
the northeast side of Chicago offers easy access to public transportation
for research work in notable archives and libraries in the area as well as
exceptional cultural opportunities. The Center has a developing Women and
Leadership Archives that may be helpful to some scholars.

Applications are accepted for a quarter, semester, academic year, or a
special summer arrangement. The position is open beginning in the Fall
semester of 2002. There are no stipends or housing arrangements attached
the program at this time.

The Visiting Scholar will share her research with members of the University
community through a formal presentation to an invited audience some time
during her stay at the center. She is welcome to attend all events
connected with the Center and the University.

Applicants should submit a project proposal related to women's leadership
(no more than two pages), including the length of time required at the =
center, curriculum vitae, and two letters of recommendation.
