Pest monitoring

Since I posted this message at a bad time (late Friday afternoon) I thought
I would post it again just in case anyone missed it. Thanks.

Fellow Archivists: I would be very interested in hearing thoughts on what is
an appropriate amount of time for monitoring a pest problem before acting. I
would think it would have to do with the type of pest and how many pests you
find, right?

We have recently come across four silverfish over a two week period and we
are obviously concerned but we don't want to overreact. Overreacting can be
worse than the actual problem. How long should we monitor a potential
silverfish problem before we decide to move forward with a treatment plan?

I would also be very interested to hear from people who have controlled
pests without using pesticides.

Thanks for your help,
