Philadelphia area exhibition invitation

Archivists and manuscript librarians who live in and around
Philadelphia (or who just happen to be passing through) are warmly invited
to attend the opening of an exhibition at the University of Pennsylvania
on Thursday, March 21st, at 5:30 PM.

The exhibit features a selection from the huge collection of
American canvassing books, sample books, and subscription publishers'
ephemera, largely from the 19th century, acquired a few years ago from the
inimitable Michael Zinman. A noted collector, Michael Zinman will attend
the opening. He has been profiled in Mark Singer's "The Book Eater" (*The
New Yorker*, February 5, 2001) and other publications.

Professor Charles Rosenberg, Janice and Julian Bers Professor of
the History and Sociology of Science at Harvard University (and till
recently of Penn), will speak about the collection. A reception follows.
The venue is the Lessing J. Rosenwald Gallery on the 6th floor of Van
Pelt-Dietrich Library, 3420 Walnut Street (entrance from Locust Walk),
Philadelphia, PA 19104-6206. Please do join us.
