2002 ARSC Conference, Santa Barbara

36th Annual ARSC Conference, Santa Barbara, California.

The 36th annual conference of the Association for Recorded Sound
Collections (ARSC) will be held in Santa Barbara, California from May 8-11,
2002 at the Radisson Hotel. The conference host is the University of
California, Santa Barbara. ARSC invites you to join your colleagues for
four days of papers, sessions and discussions on the preservation and
documentation of recorded sound.

Paper topics include "Preserving the Pop Masters" (with Stevie Wonder's
producer Ralph Sutton), "The Rise of the Hit Record and Jazz at Edison",
"Mexican-American Music in the Lummis Wax Cylinder Collection",  "Beecham's
Post-War Contract Negotiations with Columbia Records and EMI", "American
"Exhibition" Recordings of 1888-1889", and "The Story of Jazz Bandleader
and Amateur Zoologist, Harry Spindler". Technical papers and sessions will
include discussions of the state of the art in storage facilities, web
delivery of audio, new digital audio archiving systems and restoration of
damaged tape recordings.

Again this year, ARSC will be holding a pre-conference workshop for
individuals responsible for the management of archival sound recording
collections. Topics covered include care and handling of audio,
intellectual property, digital audio basics and an overview of digital
audio workstations.
