University Records Manager
Digital Collections and Archives
Tufts University
Position Available beginning July 22, 2002

Tufts University Office of Digital Collections and Archives is seeking a
creative, outgoing, self-directed individual to be the next University
Records Manager. The University Records Manager reports to the Director
of Digital Collections and Archives and is responsible for developing
and maintaining the university-wide records management program. In the
next five years the major focus of the position will be to take a
leading role in the development of a comprehensive approach to managing
electronic records that can be integrated with other information
management efforts such as the digital library repository.

Responsibilities also include developing and maintaining contacts with
university offices and departments, coordinating with the department of
Internal Audit, and working with external vendors, as well as conducting
field surveys of records in departmental offices to develop records
schedules, monitor compliance, manage confidential destruction and/or
transfer to archives or records center.

The successful candidate will be able to show evidence of effective oral
and written communications skills and the ability to explain complex
technical ideas to non-experts.  A strong public service orientation is
essential, as is evidence of accuracy, attention to detail, reliability
and discretion.  Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and
organizational skills as well as knowledge and understanding of
computers and computerized database systems is a requirement.

Other requirements: Master?s Degree from an ALA accredited institution
with records management coursework, and a minimum of 2 years of
professional experience in an archives with records management
responsibilities. Experience in an academic setting, progress toward
CRM, and an additional master's degree in a subject specialty is
desirable.
