Re: Mission Statement

Here is our city's mission statement. I think you were looking for a City
Archives Mission Statement, but we don't really have a City Archives.
Anyway, it would be built to reflect the City Vision and Mission Statements.

This was developed as part of two, several-day strategic planning sessions.
The first involved department heads; the second involved division directors,
aldermen, and the mayor. "Vision" led to the "Mission Statement" which, in
turn, is the basis for goals-objectives-and strategies with action plans. A
Mission Statement needs to have the support from the top down. All key
players in city government need to participate in its development. With
that mission in place, all department mission statements and short and
long-range plans (and budgets) must support and enhance that Mission.

"Sec. 2-1002. Vision and Mission Statement.

(a) Vision Statement. Nashua is a proud, vibrant, and welcoming community.

Nashua offers its people opportunities for personal growth, prosperity,
education, culture, heritage, and
recreation. Nashua is a city responsive to the needs of its
citizens, continuously examining its processes to enable efficient delivery
of
services that enrich the quality of life.

(b) Mission Statement. Nashua city government, while recognizing fiscal
limitations, shall:
(1) Develop and allocate sufficient resources to improve the quality of its
public education, recreation, safety services, parks, public works, social
services, and cultural offerings;
(2) Promote the growth of business and economic opportunity without
sacrificing quality of life; and (3) Develop and execute long-range plans
that make the vision a reality."

Subject: Mission Statement

Hi!!

I am not only a lurker, but a very new lurker (just joined a couple of
weeks ago). From the e-mails I have been reading from this group---everyone
sounds friendly and nice ----so, I am going to jump in and ask a question.

Let me start by saying I am not an archivist by profession, as a Management
Assistant in our City, one of my responsibilities is to set up an archives
relating to government facilities. One point has become obvious, there is a
serious need for our City to have a mission statement-----as I am sure all
of you are very aware. It is amazing how much people want to move into this
project from every department that does not really apply to what we are
doing.

So--

My request to city archivists is for copies of your Mission Statements.
They would be very helpful in deciding exactly what our parameters should
be.

I appreciate this e-mail tool for contacting so many experienced
professionals. Thank you.

By the way, I think the SCA e-mails I have been reading are interesting,
funny, clever AND quite a few even provide great information. Also, I
wonder where the BIRDIES is too.
