TALLAHASSEE — Lawmakers are considering dozens of bills that would block access to public records ranging from their own addresses to doctors’ reports about their mistakes.
More open record exemption bills have been filed this year than during any other legislative session, and last week 137 were still being considered, said Barbara Petersen, executive director of the open government watchdog group First Amendment Foundation.

House OKs closing some public records

TALLAHASSEE · Bills that would hide floor plans of public buildings, conceal records of bidding for government purchases and prohibit putting death certificates, juvenile and military records on the Internet won approval Tuesday of the Florida House.
Legislators overwhelmingly approved more than a half-dozen new exceptions to the state's open records law. More than 120 bills have been proposed this year by lawmakers, who cited a need to shield the state from potential terrorists, guard
consumer privacy, or protect against identity theft.
